Immanentize the Eschaton

The family is downstairs watching the opening ceremonies of the ChiCom Olympics. I intend to watch not one minute of these “games”. My kids don’t understand why I won;t watch, even though I explained the nature of the PRC to them. Val says “the whole world is watching, and so can you.”

I don’t see it that way. “The whole world” watched the 1936 Berlin games, which legitemized the Nazi regime. I just can’t watch as a regime which purposely starved 25 million of its people, which even today routinely imprisons and tortures any one who questions it, is treated as if it’s a memebr of the civilized world.

The prisoners in the Laogai deserve no less.
